WANTED: Friendly Volunteers for Houston's Airports

One of the first impressions most visitors have of our city is when they step off an airplane at either George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) or William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).

A simple thing such as finding a friendly face to answer a simple question can make a confused traveler feel at home.

With more than 50 million customers annually, the Houston Airport System (HAS) is searching for volunteer airport ambassadors who are friendly, outgoing and love to help others.

The volunteers would perform the following duties:

• Greet airport visitors coming to Houston for business or personal travel

• Provide general information at the various information booths

• Walk around inside the terminal buildings at IAH and HOU

We want you! Plenty of volunteers are needed to help passengers find their way through Houston's airports.

To be considered as a volunteer, applicants must first complete a 10-year background check so that they may be allowed to work in secured areas of the terminals. The volunteers are expected to work at least four hours each week and are trained by airport employees prior to being assigned duties.

The Houston Airport System feels that this is a win-win program since it is important to help customers as they pass through our airports and the volunteer is able to feel rewarded by offering support to out-of-town visitors. Volunteers can easily be spotted in the airports with bright red shirts that have the words ‘Houston Airport System Volunteer.’ We've found that the passengers are very appreciative to have a smiling face there helping.

Those wishing to join the volunteer airport ambassador program should contact us at 281 233-1173 or email us at
